The story of us
Our doors opened initially in 1961 at the Belleview Biltmore Hotel in Belleair for knitters “for the season only”, spearheaded by Mrs. Lee Gardner and her circle of friends. The store began to attract other locals and travelers not staying at the Hotel and it was soon apparent that it should be a year-round operation. With the opening of the Belleair Bazaar at that time on West Bay Drive, what better place to settle?
Mrs. Gardner’s daughter, Evelyn King, who had returned from overseas, joined her mother and suggested that the knitting store should also offer needlepoint - her passion - and so it happened.
After Mrs. Gardner and Mrs. King retired from the shop, it was run by Dianne Colitz for 25 years! The shop eventually transitioned from a needlepoint and yarn shop to exclusively needlepoint and moved to our current location. Merideth Henry purchased the shop from Dianne in early 2023.
We strive to supply you with the most extensive range of hand-painted needlepoint canvases to choose from along with a wide array of threads and other accessories to complete your needlepoint design. When you visit, you will find a warm and friendly atmosphere with a knowledgeable staff. The friendships made around the worktables are the most special part of it all.
Whether you live here in Florida or just visiting, we can't wait to see you!
Our shop is still located in belleair bluffs, just a stone's throw from where it all started. The shop is open wednesday through saturday, 10am to 4pm.
